The Story Behind It All

"My name is Tonya Knights and I have been passionate about wildlife & nature, in particular all things ornithology for as long as I can remember. Whilst out one day with my parents, I rescued my first duckling when I was about 6 years old and named it 'quackers'. My Grandparents had a love of nature, wildlife & conservation which inspired my brothers, sisters and I to feel the same from an early age.

I have always admired birds of prey, but my interest continued to grow after receiving my gift of life in the form of a Kidney Transplant. I then went on to completed my first Falconry course with Falconer Patricia Worden over 20 years ago. Since then although I wouldn't have thought possible, my love of nature, wildlife conservation, particularly all things feathered has grown and continues to do so.

I personally believe that all children even those with just a little 'wonderment' can be encouraged to feel empowered to nurture all things nature, no matter where they live, or the size of their outside space. So that's why 'Hoot with Me Community Interest Company' was born.  If you are interested in hearing more about 'Hoot With Me Community Interest Company', please get in touch, I would personally love to hear from you".

More recently, I have completed CPCAB Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills and CPCAB Level 3 Certificate in Counselling Studies, and I am now working towards the CPCAB Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (BACP‑approved practitioner qualification). Although I am developing my knowledge in this field, I am a trainee counsellor, which means I do not offer counselling services.

My training, alongside specialist programmes such as Circle of Security and other trauma‑informed approaches, has strengthened my understanding of how children experience emotions, relationships, and challenges. With a little help from my owl family,  I use this knowledge to design bespoke, creative lessons that support children in explore feelings, and develop practical emotional tools that support them in school, at home, and in their wider world.
